What We Do

Every woman should have access to a birth doula if she so desires. Birth is sacred work and no individual bringing a baby earth side should feel unheard, instead, they should feel empowered. Empowered births lead to empowered parents and thriving communities.

Request a doula

The YWCA High Point Doula Project seeks to make birth doulas available to birthing individuals in High Point who have the intention of birthing at Atrium Wake Forest Health High Point Medical Center. Individuals who have high financial need, high risk for pre-term labor as well as high risks due to other psychosocial factors also qualify.

Doula FAQs:

What is a birth doula (Do-La)?
A birth doula is a non-medically trained professional who offers physical, mental and emotional support to birthing individuals and their partners through prenatal education, continuous labor support and postpartum visits.

Why would I want a birth doula?
Birth doulas can teach you how to advocate for yourself to seek the birth you desire. Birth doulas have a relationship to birth, they believe in the process of physiological birth. They long for every woman to feel supported and empowered by her birth, whether that be via c-section, induction or physiological process.

Who are your YWCA Doulas?
The YWCA has contracted with two doulas who serve the High Point community. Jaden Millner, DONA trained birth doula and Nala Fairley, trained with Kira Kimble and certified with Birth Art International

How do I request a YWCA Doula?
You can request to be a part of the YWCA High Point Doula Project by completing this Google form.

What are some things that birth doulas might do?
A birth doula can help you with thinking through pain-coping tools that work for you. They will talk about what one can expect in labor and what to bring to the hospital. A birth doula can help you make a plan for postpartum support. A birth doula will be on call for you beginning in your 38th week so that you can ask questions and process potential fears and concerns.

How much does a doula cost?
Doula services at the YW are completely free to program participants. Private doulas can vary in price based on experience and packages from $500-$1,200.

Do you offer Doula training?
The YWCA of High Point does not currently offer direct doula training.

YWCA Maternal Health staff can connect interested individuals with doula training organizations or other local doula training offerings.
